Dental Implants in Melbourne

Dental implants are used to replace teeth that have been lost as a result of accident, disease, or aging. Dental Boutique’s dental implant clinics employ cutting-edge technology to create solutions for you to regain natural-looking and long-lasting teeth replacement.

Cosmetic Dental Implants

Cosmetic Dental implants have been around for 25 years. While there are two to three different methods of replacing teeth, dental implants are one of the only permanent solutions. It is considered the gold standard option, lasting up to 15 to 25 years, before revisional treatment should be considered.

A metal titanium rod is placed into the jawbone. The bone around the implant will start to integrate. In some rare cases with patients who are allergic to metal, we can use metal-free zirconia, which reduces the risk of Implant failure uncommon, appearing in just 5 % of cases.

Implants can be placed with two separate techniques, one called the Traditional Method and the other, the Keyhole Method. To identify which method to adopt,  the dentists at Dental Boutique must determine two to three existing prerequisites;

  • The patients must have enough bone volume and density
  • There must be enough bone quality
  • The positioning of the adjacent teeth must be factored into the placement of the implant

The Traditional Method for Dental Implants

If there is a lack of bone volume or quality, the dentist would need to adopt the traditional method, as it may involve bone grafting to grow the bone around the area to ensure the implant will remain fitted and sturdy for the next 15 to 25 years.

If you do require dental bone grafting, the surgeon will cut and peel the gums back, analyse the bone and add the grafted bone that can be taken from the jaw, another source, or a bovine source. This is a decision made entirely by the patient based on their preference or beliefs.

The incision is closed, the implants are applied, and the 3-6 month healing process begins. At Dental Boutique, we offer extensive and supportive aftercare to ensure you’re not going through the recovery alone.

Depending on the integration of the titanium rod, sometimes teeth are placed on the implant immediately; if there is any movement, the teeth must be placed later on in the healing process.

The Keyhole Method for Dental Implants

If there is sufficient bone quality and density, the dentist may use the Keyhole Method. The dentist will create a small hole at the top of the gums where the implants are placed according to the template, which is designed and customised before surgery. This means that the recovery time is minimal, it may feel like a small ulcer on the gums, and we find that patients are in a capacity to even go to work that afternoon or the next day.

Types Of Cosmetic Dental Implants

Single Dental Implants

A single cosmetic dental implant is applied when only one of the patient’s teeth are missing. Dental implants are applied in two parts. First, a titanium post is inserted into the gum to replace the missing root. This will provide the tooth with support and strength. A crown or denture is then placed on the post to replace the missing tooth.

Fulll Dental Implants (All On 4)

In the case of advanced decay or the majority of teeth missing, simple dental implants might not be able to do the trick. This is where the All on 4 treatment comes into the picture.

The All on 4 is a permanent dental implant solution designed to be an alternative to full teeth dentures. Through All on 4 a full set of prosthetic teeth are hinged on to four dental posts that support the whole set.

Multiple Dental Implants

Multiple dental implants are applied the same way as single dental implants, but will require more work as multiple implants will be placed to replace a few missing teeth.

You may be a candidate for single or multiple implants if you are missing one or more teeth in between healthy natural teeth. Candidates must also have healthy gums, jaw bones and oral hygiene standards.

The Benefits Of Dental Implants

More Stability

With posts going down to the bone of your jaw, dental implants provide you with stability and durability that is reliable. You no longer have to worry about your new teeth coming off when you bite on hard food.

Cost Effective

Because implants are so durable and long-lasting, you actually save in the long term! No need to replace anything as long as you take good care of them thus no upkeep costs. Long term will always win you the cost battle.

Improved Aesthetics

Dental implants have a natural look that blends in well with the rest of your teeth. Early on in the planning stage, we will find the colour that matches best with your existing teeth so people will never even notice that you have implants. Furthermore, dental implants will ensure your ability to communicate and exert yourself with confidence.

Finding The Best Solution For You

Every patient is a special case. We want to make sure you feel like you’re in control and well aware of the treatment options you have. Here are some of the treatments in our Melbourne dental implant clinic available for patients with missing teeth – and the distinctions between each of them.

Traditional Implant Bridge
All On 4 Dental Implants
Benefits Dentures provide a cost-effective, quick solution. Overdentures provide a secure lower denture for more comfort and practicality than dentures.  Traditional implant bridges are a  permanent, cost-effective solution that functions like a natural set of teeth.  All On 4 is the most permanent and efficient solution, providing a full set of teeth on only four implants that functions like a natural set of teeth would, allowing you to eat, brush and floss as normal.
Challenges Dentures aren’t a fixed, permanent solution which can often cause discomfort and inconvenience. Dentures need to be removed for regular cleaning, and when sleeping.   While more secure than dentures, overdentures are still a removable solution which can cause inconvenience. The overdenture must be removed for cleaning, and when sleeping.  Applying an implant bridge takes around three months, which is longer than other available options. It requires 6-10 implants, making it a more complex procedure to insert than All On 4.    None
Removability Removable Removable Fixed Fixed
Number of Implants None 2-4 6-10 4
Treatment Time 2-4 weeks 2-4 months 3 months 3 days
