Options for Braces

Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces apply controlled pressure to gradually move teeth into position. They can also be combined with other orthodontic appliances to help address alignment and spacing concerns.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces offer an alternative to metal braces, as they are made from materials that blend with the natural colour of your teeth. While they are less noticeable, they require careful oral hygiene, as they are typically larger and more brittle than metal braces. Suitability is assessed during your initial consultation.

Lingual Braces

Lingual braces are attached to the back (tongue side) of the teeth, making them less noticeable than traditional braces. They are most often used to address the front six upper and lower teeth.

Are There Alternatives to Braces?

Invisalign™ and clear aligners offer a more discreet alternative to traditional fixed braces for straightening teeth.

Clear aligners are removable, custom-made trays designed to gradually move teeth using controlled force. Treatment time is similar to traditional braces, depending on individual factors.

We use advanced 3D technology to plan tooth movement and tailor each treatment plan to the individual. Dental Boutique™ is a Red Diamond Invisalign Provider, completing over 1,000 Invisalign cases per year.

Invisalign vs Braces

Before deciding on an orthodontic treatment, it’s important to consult with a dental professional. They can discuss your options, including the advantages and limitations, and help you make an informed decision.

Invisalign/Clear Aligners

Aesthetics: Clear aligners are nearly invisible, making them less noticeable during treatment.
Removability: Aligners can be removed for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, supporting good oral hygiene.
Treatment Preview: Invisalign® treatment can provide a visual representation of each stage, giving an indication of how teeth may move over time.
Comfort: Some patients experience pressure when starting treatment or when changing to a new aligner. This typically settles as teeth adjust.

Braces

Aesthetics: The wires and brackets of traditional braces are visible during treatment.
Fixed Appliance: Braces are fixed and not removable. This can make certain foods harder to eat (e.g. apples, nuts) and oral hygiene more challenging.
Treatment Planning: Treatment duration is estimated at the start. Visualisation of the final result is typically not available prior to treatment.
Comfort: Some patients experience discomfort after adjustments. Brackets may also irritate the mouth and cause ulcers.

Do braces hurt?

Most people will experience some discomfort and tenderness for a few days after fitting and adjustments of braces. This means your teeth are moving! Over-the-counter painkillers such as Panadol may relieve the discomfort if required.

How much do braces cost?

Dental Boutique offers payment plans starting from $33 per week over 60 months (total cost from $8,000). The cost of braces may vary based on the severity of damage, the number of teeth that need work, the materials used, and many other factors. Will I need to have teeth removed to get braces?

Fortunately, with modern orthodontic technology, the need for tooth removal has been greatly reduced. We believe every tooth is precious and will do our best to retain your complete and natural smile for life. We will only recommend tooth removal if it is absolutely necessary.

Do I have to wear metal braces?

Although metal braces are efficient for moving teeth, at Dental Boutique™ we do offer many teeth straightening alternatives, including Invisalign which is a nearly invisible treatment solution compared to braces.
