Dental Bonding, or composite bonding, is a form of adhesive dentistry where your dental professional applies a tooth-coloured resin, which is a plastic material, to a broken, crooked or misaligned tooth. It may be used to address the position, size or shape of a tooth or set of teeth. The resin is bonded with the material of your tooth and helps improve the overall aesthetics of your smile. From minor touch-ups to more comprehensive changes, composite bonding and veneers offer a solution that can be tailored to you.
Composite veneers, on the other hand, are designed to cover the entire front surface of the teeth and may be used for issues such as discolouration, unevenness, or wear. Veneers can create a more consistent appearance across several teeth, while bonding is generally suited to more localised changes. The most suitable option will depend on your individual needs, oral health, and a professional assessment, including consideration of risks and limitations
This video shows an example of the bonding process, where resin is applied, shaped, and hardened with a blue light before being polished and refined by the dentist. Outcomes and longevity vary for each person. Your dentist will discuss suitability, alternatives, and risks during consultation. Treatment risks and considerations can be found here.
Composite veneers are an elective cosmetic dental procedure. Suitability and outcomes vary from person to person. Your dentist will also discuss alternatives such as whitening or orthodontics, if suitable.
At Dental Boutique™, our dentists consider both function and appearance when planning smiles; there are many factors to consider and details to pay close attention to when working with composite material. This is why our dentists work closely with you to tailor a plan that suits you and your concerns.
Dental Bonding provides a solution for minor tooth problems that may include:
Dental composite bonding can be used to replace the parts of your teeth that might have chipped off.
Dental Bonding may be used to lengthen the tooth and make it level with the others.
Minor misalignment may be managed by adding material to teeth to help achieve a more even appearance.
The spaces and crevices between teeth that might be too far apart may be addressed by tooth filling.
Tooth discolouration may be addressed if it doesn’t react to teeth whitening procedures.
This whole process is typically completed in one visit. However, the number of visits required will depend on your individual clinical situation and treatment plan.
Together with your dentist, you can choose the shade of material that closely match with your current set of teeth to help the filling blend with your existing teeth.
Your dentist will then apply the resin, which is then moulded and smoothened to the proper shape. A blue ultraviolet light is exposed to the resin to harden it. Once hardened, your dentist will then shape, polish and refine.
Composite bonding treatment costs can vary based on the initial arrangement of your teeth, materials chosen, complexity of your case and treatment time required.

Compared to other forms of cosmetic dentistry like Porcelain Veneers, dental bonding can be more susceptible to staining or chipping. Patients are advised to follow their dentist’s guidance on care and maintenance to help preserve the appearance and condition of bonded teeth, noting that outcomes and longevity vary between individuals.

At Dental Boutique™, during your initial consultation, we will listen to your unique concerns and help determine the best treatment for you.
With good oral hygiene, regular dental care and appropriate maintenance, porcelain veneers may last on average 5–7 years. Longevity depends on individual factors, such as tooth condition, bite, diet and oral habits. Regular check-ups and good oral hygiene are essential to maintain their appearance. Results will vary from person to person.
Composite veneers are susceptible to staining over time, especially with frequent consumption of coffee, tea, red wine, or smoking. Proper care and maintenance can help minimise staining.
You should care for composite veneers as you would your regular teeth. Brush and floss daily, avoid biting hard objects and visit your dentist for regular professional cleanings and maintenance.
Composite veneers can generally be removed or replaced. In most situations composite veneers are an additive treatment, meaning no preparation of your teeth is required. Therefore, removing the composite material can restore the teeth close to their original condition.
